The Wardrobe Theatre have built a name for themselves over the past few years with a succession of incredibly popular alternative Christmas shows in Bristol. With the success of Muppits Die Hard, and Goldilock Stock and the Three Smoking Bears the 2016-2017 festive season saw a mash up of Rocky Balboa and the Rocky Horror Picture Show called Rocky: A Horror Show.
All music composed and produced by Tom Crosley-Thorne, lyrics by the company.
The show received great reviews from regional press and completely sold out its two month long run. This show boasted ridiculous comic writing in the world of an over the top sexy rock musical thanks to the creative partnership between Tom Brennan of the Wardrobe Ensemble and the music of Tom Crosley-Thorne. “Rocky is good fun and exceptionally well made” B24/7.
From classic rock and roll cliches to heartfelt musical theatre solos Rocky: A Horror Show required a wide range of songs culminating in over twenty full, live-feel produced backing tracks for the cast to sing on top. Sitting in an over-the-top musical world where aliens, sex and violence live along side blissful ignorance this show allowed for punchy rock pastiches inspired by the Rocky Horror Picture Show thrown in with heavy guitar solos and soaring vocal lines.
“A smash hit must-see… Fantastically entertaining.” ★★★★ The Fix.
